Bitch Magazine

This magazine is not for writers who aren’t passionate about women’s rights (and feminism, to an extent). Bitch Magazine is for pop savvy feminists who can dig deep into the undiscovered meanings of pop culture and its relation to feminism.
Being a feminist is not a requirement, but you should have some knowledge about feminism and pop culture.
Who They Are: Bitch Magazine is a quarterly magazine (read: they only produce four magazines a year) that regularly publishes lengthy features, interviews, and columns about pop culture. Each snippet evaluates pop culture from a feminist’s standpoint. Bitch Magazine is a positive magazine.
What They Want: Bitch Magazine is only looking for nonfiction essays evaluating pop culture, the media, and its effect on women. They are also looking for lengthy interviews with notable feminist leaders, profiles of notable activists, and even comics. They pay $100 for features, $50 for half page features, and $20 for short articles under 500 words.
When They Want It: There are no deadlines, but keep their editorial calendar in mind. They publish on a quarterly basis, so plan accordingly.
Bitch Magazine accepts queries and finished pieces, which is a huge bonus. They don’t require writing samples if you submit the finished piece, although you run a bigger risk of rejection. If you don’t have any clips available, however, you can still submit your work.
Make sure to check out the online essays published on their website before submitting. Get a feel of their style and try to stick close to it.
You cannot submit generic content to Bitch Magazine. They want you to explore some facet of pop culture and put a feminist twist on it. They expect it to be good.
