Demand Studios Tutorials: How to Appeal a Rewrite Request

19 January 2010 No Comment

Sometimes you may receive a rewrite request that either doesn’t make sense, doesn’t adhere to Demand Studios’s guidelines or worse, insults you personally as a writer.

If you do not agree with a rewrite request based on these issues, you can email Demand Studio’s editorial team for help. This is called an “appeal request”, a process where the editorial team personally reviews the rewrite request. They may give you advice for how to write the rewrite or may contact the editor for further clarification. In some cases the editor may be reprimanded, especially if he or she personally insults you.

To appeal a rewrite request, use the following tips for a positive outcome.

How to Appeal a Rewrite Request

1. Give them the exact name of the title. Demand Studios cannot offer any advice if they cannot find the article–and the rewrite request–on the website.

2. Explain logically why you disagree with the request. Reference Demand Studios’s official guidelines if applicable. Never insult the editor, editorial staff or Demand Studios. Avoid being emotional about it–it may cloud your judgment. If you cannot write the email without becoming angry or upset, wait for a few days to let your temper cool.

3. If the editor personally attacked you, avoid getting emotional about it either. But how? Try focusing on how unprofessional it is to personally attack a writer, such as “The editor said I’m a terrible writer and should stop writing health articles. I feel that is extremely unprofessional and unnecessary.”*

Remember, keep your emotions out of it and state your concerns in a logical, non-threatening manner. Not only will they be more willing to work with you, you may also see a more positive outcome to your rewrite request.
