When you own an author website it’s important to have a steady amount of traffic flowing into your website. An author website is a opportunity for clients to find you. However, this can’t be accomplished with a lack of website traffic. SEO (search engine optimization) and marketing tips can help increase website traffic.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

Including keywords and key phrases within your website is important for traffic. You can optimize the page of your website by using the same guidelines for creating SEO web content.

For the best results, include two keywords or key phrases on each page of your website. Make sure the keywords are included in the titles of each page. Use simple keywords because they are likely to be included within the pages URL also. The simpler the URL is, the better the traffic will be.

Check that you have included the keywords in the tags section of each page also. If you’re able to, include each keyword one time in the meta description as well.

Update Tips

To keep your author website high on a search engine results page, it must be updated often. The keywords and key phrases should be updated once a month because the number of hits constantly changes. You don’t want your traffic to decrease because of outdated keywords.

Updating your information is also important for maintaining traffic. A great way to do this is to create a blog page on your website. Update the blog at least twice a month to keep traffic flowing. Don’t forget to use keywords and key phrases within the blog posts. To attract clients, the blog posts should relate to your writing skills. For example, if you’re a ghost writer, an ideal blog post would be “10 Reasons to Hire a Ghost Writer.”

Marketing Tips

Marketing your website is also an important aspect for website traffic. Use link building to increase traffic. Include your website’s URL whenever and where ever possible. Always include your website link in online profiles and social media sites.

Market yourself offline as well. You can easily do this with business cards that include your name, website, contact information, and basic skills you provide. Vista Print has great deals on business cards, which are often free. Pass out the business cards whenever you see an opportunity. You can even pass them out at local writing groups and libraries.

With a few hours spent each month focusing on the traffic to your website, the more clients and business opportunities that will come your way. To monitor your website’s traffic, sign up for a web analytics program. There are free programs available online or you can purchase software.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
