The Saturday Evening Post

9 October 2009 No Comment
The Saturday Evening Post is looking for informative, but intriguing, articles and features that cover all aspects of American culture.  Humor helps, but is not required for acceptance.  Although they pay less than other national magazines, their notoriety should be noted–this magazine originally began as the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1728, owned by Benjamin Franklin and Hugh Meredith.
Who They Are: One of the oldest publications in the United States that publishes articles about unique and refreshing insights into American life, culture, and society.  They aren’t a typical magazine, and interested writers should read a few of their publications to get the “feel” of the magazine.
What They Want: Feature length articles, short anecdotal articles (Post Scripts), how-to features, and articles about gardening, pets, financial planning, and other subjects oriented to families and people over the age of 45.
Query: Queries or completed manuscripts are accepted only through snail mail.  They typically respond to queries within three weeks.  Completed manuscripts receive a response within six weeks.
Other Details: The Saturday Evening Post also accepts humor articles, photographs, illustrations and cartoons.  There is not an established payment range for these type of articles, but are generally over $25.
